The beasts created by the crystal god are mysterious and ancient. After some managed to figure out how to manipulate their magic powers to open their own rifts, powerful demons were able to travel into the original world. They wished to search for the crystal shards that were broken in hopes to bring the crystal back to its full form, but instead managed to intimidate the natural creatures of the world. These modern beings were not used to seeing such massive and monstrous things. The beasts became known to mankind as mischievous creatures, they were named Demons and looked upon as a threat to the mortal’s way of life. To an extent, the demons were. If a crystal shard was on the line, not much could stop a demon from obtaining it. While few have ever shown themselves to any mortal race, those that did made a lasting impression.
The magic of the crystals was valuable to more than just the demons, however. After the 35-year war and the studies of the Soul Well, the Elves declared that finding more of these magical relics was a top priority. It is evident to anyone exposed to the power emanating from the crystal shard that the magical possibilities are limitless. The magic from the Soul Well had already furthered their development as a society, the increase in magic allowed for the development of great new technologies, and the greater speed of building the city. Now that the magic of the crystal was dwindling, the Elves wanted more.
Apparently, they were not the only ones. Against both the Elves and the Demons was the original Demon, Ronebal, who swallowed the large chunk of the crystal body. The injuries to the Demon from the explosion of the crystal took hundreds of years to recover, and its effects were everlasting. Even though he was disfigured and missing parts of his original body, the Alta could easily make up for it with his enhanced magical capability. In fact, he was capable of escaping the original implosion of the crystal, allowing him to continue to roam the paradise. Now, restored to his former glory, Ronebal has begun his search for the remaining shards, intent on finding them and realizing his true potential.
Within the city is conflict of its own. It seems that the rich are only getting richer, and the needy only need more. When the Elves promised protection and equity in the treaty of peace, oppression was never part of the memo. It seems that something fishy is going on as well. Magic has been totally prohibited without the ownership of a permit, something very difficult to receive if you aren’t one of the social elite. Incarceration levels are at a high, and from the looks of it someone or something is setting up powerful magicians to be put to death. To make matters worse, family members of the incarcerated are no longer permitted to visit their loved ones, some are going as far as to say their criminal family members have gone missing. Many look to the Sovereign for answers to all of these quandaries, but others choose to blame him. While the walls of the city do offer safety, trust does not flow through the streets and many of the races have begun to resent the Elves.
