It is said that long ago, before any man existed, that the land was a paradise, more beautiful than words could describe. So beautiful, in fact, that the god who watched over this world wished to keep its splendor protected from any harm. The god wished to reside on the ground, and to provide life power to the world around it. To come to earth, the god was forced to contain his magical form in a physical one. Taking the shape of a massive iridescent crystal, the god descended to the earth and made its home in a shallow pool of water beneath a breathtaking waterfall.
The god remained there for thousands of years, extending its magic power into the soil to keep the land healthy and in its beautiful condition. The land flourished under the care of the god, but so did the creatures that lived there. In their curiosity, the creatures explored the crystal, experiencing a great rush of energy from its close presence. They began to break small pieces from the body to keep, quickly realizing that these pieces allowed them to fabricate miracles.
The god was helpless to communicate with these beings the damage they were creating. While it's magic was limitless, its crystal body could still be broken. The god promptly came up with a solution. To keep the world’s creatures at bay, it would create it’s own magical protectors, strong beasts made completely of magic power, like the god itself. They would live at the waterfall, and in the surrounding land, keeping the world’s creatures at bay and away from the crystal. These beings it created, now known as Demons, were monstrous, and black, surging with magical energy.
The magical beasts lived in harmony with each other, enjoying their days playing in the paradise and feeding from the crystal’s endless magic. The god communicated with the beasts through the flow of magic, feeding them power as long as they protected its solid form. Their lives were happy and simple, at least, until one of them learned selfishness. A massive and power beast became aware of it’s own potential. One with the power of a god had no limits, and this beast longed for such everlasting energy and unbounded strength. With its mighty mouth, the tremendous beast sunk its teeth into the crystal, and as the water crashed down on both their bodies, the beast ripped a substantial chunk from the body of the god and swallowed it.
All of the beasts looked on in horror as the crystal body was unsealed, releasing the inner core of magic power. The rest of the body burst apart and exploded in all different directions. As the magic core imploded a rift was created in the fabric of the world which pulled all of the beasts within. The shattered remains of the crystal rained down onto the paradise and the magic rift sealed, expelling the rest of the power into the world. Completely separated from their origin, with no knowledge of how to get back, the beasts were forced to call the mysterious wasteland they now resided in their home.
Back on the paradise, the magic had seeped its way into the world and its inhabitants. All of the living creatures could now perform their miracles without the aid of a crystal shard. The shards themselves scattered all over the land in hidden places, each holding the original magic of the god. Without protection, and with creatures that obtained magic powers, the paradise slowly changed over the years. It was still beautiful, but no longer pure. The god, conscious of its shattered body still wished to retain the purity of the land. Each shard stood testament to the god’s original goal, augmenting the land around themselves with the flowing magic power. In these areas, the land still holds its original beauty, and if found they are a haven within the modern world.
